A QR code can lead to brew guidance, origin information, a campaign or a traceability record. A variable code can also identify a batch, serial item or customer-specific pack. The code becomes useful only when the data, print workflow and destination page remain controlled.
Choose the data model first

Build a controlled print workflow
- Create and validate the identifier database.
- Define code size, contrast, quiet zone and panel location.
- Confirm whether the code is printed on the pouch, a label or an inline variable-print area.
- Scan representative codes at production speed.
- Reject unreadable or duplicated codes and retain an audit record.
- Test the destination page in the customer’s main markets and languages.
Test the actual material
Curved panels, gusset folds, zipper areas, metallic film, low contrast and varnish can reduce scan reliability. The approval should use the actual print, finish and filled geometry rather than a code displayed on a monitor.
GS1 Digital Link can encode GS1 identifiers in a web-compatible URI and connect the same code to online information. It is a standards-based option, not a requirement for every marketing QR code.
